Luxurious Alpaca Felting Workshops

Bring your friends and join us for a unique and fun experience of felting alpaca fiber. Learn a skill. Take home a keepsake. Enjoy a wine tasting!
These fun and educational workshops will teach you different techniques working with alpaca fiber, merino wool, silk and bamboo and you will learn the fundamentals of fiber layout.
Easter Eggs – in this workshop you will learn to combine wet felting and needle felting to create decorative Easter eggs. These skills and techniques can then be applied to endless creative projects. You will be making three felted easter eggs to take home.

Vessels – you will learn how to wet felt over a flat resist (2D/flat wet felting) and take home an attractive bowl, decorated by you! The 6″x6″ bowl will not only be decorative but can be used as a yarn bowl or other needs. After mastering this class, you will have the skills to make any felted project with a resist, such as a handbag or hat.

Luxurious Scarf – This 4-hour workshop will teach you all the fundamentals of nuno felting and you will take home a beautiful thin scarf that you can wear even in Texas weather!

Christmas Ornaments – you will learn how to combine wet felting and needle felting and take home two beautiful keepsake ornaments, ready to find a place in your tree for Christmas.

All workshops are suitable for beginners as well as more experienced felters.
Workshops are held inside our farm store on our Christmas tree farm. A complimentary wine tasting of unique European wines and other regions from around the world accompanies each workshop. Additional wine and beer are available for purchase without wine club commitments. Sodas are also available for purchase. Minimum age of 12 or 15 (see each class) to participate and 21 to enjoy alcoholic beverages.

HOST & INSTRUCTOR
TX-Ture Farm’s very own “boss-lady”, soap maker, candle maker, and fiber artist, Annemiek, will be your host and instructor. Having grown up in the Netherlands and lived throughout Europe, Annemiek enjoys bringing a European flare from regions such as Savon de Marseille (France) and Castile (Spain) to your class and wine tasting experience.

What is wet felting, needle felting, and nuno felting?
Wet felting is the process of creating a fabric from fibers using water, heat and soap.
Needle felting is is a dry felting technique which employs specially designed needles to manipulate fibers.
Nuno felting is the technique used to bond loose fiber (such as alpaca fiber) into a sheer fabric (such as silk gauze) creating a lightweight felt.

I’m not very technical or artistic. How difficult is this?
These classes are intended to be both fun and educational. As long as you can follow the instructions provided, you will be successful.

Is this workshop suitable for children?
It depends. The skills required are certainly something that children can do. The duration, patience and precision required however may be a challenge for some children. Children under 16 must be accompanied and assisted by a paid adult participant.

What should I wear?
Wear comfortable shoes and clothing as there is considerable standing and movement involved. You will work with soapy water and we do provide an aprons.

How long before my scarf is ready to wear?
Your scarf can be worn as soon as it dries.
